Recipe: Sophisticated Pickled Walnut Ketchup

Like a grown up barbeque sauce, this pickled walnut ketchup is delicious alongside your favourite pie, on a grilled snag or smeared on a bacon and egg roll.

This is a more sophisticated version of pickled walnut ketchup – hence the name! If you don’t have all the ingredients to hand, try our Two-ingredient Pickled Walnut Ketchup.

A jar of dark sauce alongside a spoon, cut pickled walnut and a jar of pickled walnuts.

Ingredients

  • 1 jar pickled walnuts
  • 50g raisins
  • 50 g light brown sugar
  • 1 tbs honey
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • ½ tsp salt or to taste

Method

  1. Place the walnuts, their juice and raisins into a highspeed blender and process until smooth.
  2. Pour the puree into a small saucepan along with the rest of the ingredients, bring to simmer, stirring occasionally for about five minutes.
  3. Check for seasoning and add salt as required. Store in a clean jar or squeezy bottle in the fridge.
