Coaldale Walnuts is a family business producing walnuts and pickled walnuts in southern Tasmania.
Coaldale Walnuts was established in 1997 with Franquette and Chandler grafted varieties planted in the deep alluvial soils on the banks of the Coal River near the historic town of Richmond.
Over the years, the business expanded to include walnuts grown throughout the Coal River valley. Value-adding through pickled walnuts continues to be a growth area of the business, now the largest producer of pickled walnuts in Australia. The most recent addition is agritourism, with a popular annual open farm event held each May and regular farm tours.
We sell our products wholesale and retail through our online shop and stockists.
We practice sustainable agriculture using mainly organic fertilisers and management practices which enhance the integrity and biodiversity of our soils. Find out more about our sustainable practices.
We are proud to produce a high-quality health product, and we are members of the Australian Walnut Industry Association and Coal River Product Association.

The Coaldale family
First established by Phil and Jane Dening in 1997, Coaldale Walnuts is now run by their daughter and son-law, Sophie and Brad Milic.
Our Sustainability
We often talk about Coaldale Walnuts being ‘sustainable’ … but what does that really mean?
Just walking around the walnut trees was peaceful and finding large walnuts from branches was so much fun.
Also we enjoyed the coffee and dessert from a coffee van. Lastly their pickled walnut was so delicious when I tasted it, so purchased a jar and I am enjoying it at home. I will definitely go to the open farm days again!
